Is it appropriate to ask about (having) children during a job interview?

During a pre-contract interview or other preparations to sign an employment agreement, it is not allowed to demand information that concern the private life of the applicant or that is not connected with the applicant’s suitability for the position. Questions about civil status, children, and family obligations are inappropriate.
